Learning Socially

I am a social learner. I learn from people around me.

Sure, I also learn by reading textbooks, attending classes, and paying attention to what industry professionals have to say. But I also learn from a social network. Interestingly enough, I learn many new things from people I have never seen before. People I have met online through websites such as Facebook or LinkedIn or by reading their blogs and other writings.

People I learn from on a regular basis include: Bruce Clay, Aaron Wall, and Rick Schwartz, the Domain King.

What does it mean to Learn Socially?

What is social learning?

I believe when one learns socially, they are taking in, or observing, the actions of others in their social environment. I believe one can learn much from the people around them and that one's social circle will oftentimes become the largest influence on one's habits and behavior. If you want to learn good habits and good behavior, then surround yourself with people who will positively influence you.

For example, I am an SEO and Internet Marketing Consultant. If I want to stay sharp and become a better Internet Marketer, I must pay attention to and absorb SEO and Internet Marketing news and techniques from other SEOs and Internet Marketers around me who practice high-quality SEO and Internet Marketing.

Embrace social networks and surround yourself with intelligent people you can learn from everyday. This is what learning socially means to me.
